Sr Master A. Shekib Foroughi
6th Dan Black Belt WTF (World Taekwondo Federation)
Master Foroughi started his training at the age of 14. He got involved in Martial Arts after watching Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies in his youth. Soon after he discovered his passion for Martial Arts. He then decided to join Taekwondo, even though his home country was at war and he faced many personal challenges. He left his loving family and beloved country behind at a young age to pursue a better and safer life. He traveled different countries until he settled in Canada which he calls his second home. Since then he has always been continuing his training under the watchful eyes of great masters; Grandmaster Jong Soo Park (founder of ITF Taekwondo Canada), Grandmaster Yoon and Grandmaster Tiger Kim.
Master Foroughi became acquainted with the world famous Grandmaster Tiger Twins (Simon and James); the twin sons of Supreme Master Tiger Kim and Master Tommy Chang where they teamed up and opened his first Taekwondo school in Toronto, Ontario in 1998.
After competing at local, provincial, and national levels, he turned his focus and energy towards his school by teaching more and giving back to the students what he has learned. Master Foroughi has helped thousands of students to achieve their goals in Martial Arts with his passion, knowledge, and inspirational experiences by instilling self-discipline, self-confidence, and positive attitudes in students regardless of their gender, age, or fitness level to improve the quality of their life.
With his leadership, Sr. Master Foroughi has successfully trained more than 200 quality black belts from the 1st Dan to 4th Dan master levels. Master Foroughi is a strong believer to continued training, learning and growing even once one achieves a black belt. The Journey of learning never ends: not in Martial arts, nor in life. Once one stops learning and training, that’s when one stops being a good leader. That’s why the philosophy of Master Foroughi’s school is “Black Belt and Beyond”. Why is “Black Belt and Beyond” so important? The Black Belt represents the symbol of outstanding excellence in martial arts. It demonstrates your honesty, perseverance, sweat, dedication, discipline, patience, courage, humility, confidence, strength, respect, and indomitable-spirit.” Black Belt is not the end of the journey to one’s mastery of the art, rather it is that one is done packing for their journey and may now take the first step in a journey that can never be completed, only traveled. Master Foroughi’s Master’s instilled in him the idea that the first five Dan ranks come from what you have gotten out of the system of Martial Arts, and the next ranks come from what you have given back.
Attitude is everything in Martial Arts as well as in life. A good attitude is the only sign that the training of Martial Arts is changing a student on the inside and outside for the better. Internal changes are shown through attitude and appreciation, and over time this this attitude carries over into the student’s personal daily life . A Positive attitude always prevails over a negative one. As a Martial Artist and citizen, we have a responsibility for contributing to our community and to the less fortunate people around the world. Master Foroughi considers himself very lucky to be able to contribute with his Martial Arts background for to help raise money for good causes including Sick Kids Hospital, The Children’s Wish Foundation, and World Vision Canada.
Master Foroughi is a passionate Martial Artist role model for this generation and future generations to come. His future goals in the Martial Arts are to stay active and continuing to learn and expanding his knowledge. He would like to continue passing on his knowledge and the gift that Martial Arts offer to as many people as possible, and helping to bring out the best in people.
